Essential Concepts of Yoga Philosophy in the Yoga Sutras: a Guide for Iyengar Yoga Practitioners with Jarvis Chen
Sunday, Nov 10, 12-3pm
Cost $45. Preregistration Required.
Sri BKS Iyengar taught yoga as an embodied practice through which we can use the body as an instrument to purify the consciousness and to realize the Self. Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra is essential to understanding Guruji’s “philosophy of asana,”. In this workshop, we will explore some of the Yoga Sutra's central concepts to better understand important principles of yoga philosophy and highlight the ways that BKS Iyengar connects the Yoga Sutras to our embodied experience.
Jarvis Chen has been a practitioner of Iyengar Yoga for over twenty years and is certified at the Senior Intermediate level. His primary teacher is Patricia Walden, whom he assists regularly in classes and workshop. He travels regularly to Pune to study at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute.
Students are encouraged to bring a copy of BKS Iyengar’s Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and/or other translations/commentaries. We will have extra copies at the studio. Though the format will primarily be lecture and discussion, please come dressed to do asana so that we can explore how Patanjali’s yoga can inform our asana practice. Session will include a break.
